Journey to the Unknown
My real salvation experience (you could call it restoration from backsliding) was a process that began through an unknown journey I undertook around early December 1990. I was coming from Belgium Embassy at Lagos Island and got to public motor park at Obalende. While I was waiting to board a bus, I heard a very clear audible voice that said “Leave this country.” It was so powerful enough that I did not think twice to heed the instruction. I began preparation to do so right from that afternoon. It was a command to leave without any accompanying instructions and a definite destination. But I met with few friends that suggested several places I could go, to them, travelling outside the country was not new to me. Perhaps, they thought I was about to embark on another drug trafficking. Among places suggested Europe was my pick and I was to go by road through different route beginning from Lagos.
Arriving home that night, I packed my stuff and early the following day I was at Oyingbo motor park in Lagos to board a vehicle to Kano, from Kano to Maidugury onward to Fugil in Cameroun. Eventually, I got to a province in Chad Republic called ‘Mondou.’ While preparing to connect another country enroute, that is, to Central Africa, Bangui, that shared boundary with Chad; there was a Coup DeEtta. A former military soldier, Idriss Deby overthrew the incumbent Head of the government Hissene Habre. All the country borders were immediately closed. It was while I was waiting for the opening of the border that I had a dream encounter that changed my life forever.
